Alpine skier Marco Odermatt, representing Switzerland, won the giant slalom at the Beijing Olympics.

Following the results of two attempts, he showed the result of 2:09.35. The second place was taken by the Slovenian Zhan Kranjec (2:09.54), who showed only the eighth result in the first attempt, but was the best in the second attempt. In third place was the Frenchman Mathieu Febvre (2:10.69).
