IOC expressed readiness to provide psychological support to Valieva

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is ready to provide psychological assistance to the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. This was stated by IOC spokesman Mark Adams, reports Reuters.

“Yes, we believe that this [psychological support] may be required, we are ready for this. There are other ways to support. But the main thing is that the help was provided by members of her team, ”said Adams.

He noted that the main responsibility for the psychological state of Valieva lies with the team of the athlete.

In addition, the IOC representative explained that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will make a decision in the case of the Russian figure skater as quickly as possible in this situation. “CAS is working as quickly as possible on the Valieva case, they are considering the case tonight and will publish the decision tomorrow. Yes, justice is carried out quite slowly, and this is a normal process, but in this case it is as fast as possible,” he said.

Valieva will take part in the short program of the individual tournament at the Olympics 2022 Olympics The doping test of 15-year-old figure skater Kamila Valieva, taken a month and a half before the Olympics, during the Russian Figure Skating Championships in St. Petersburg, turned out to be positive. The competitions were held under the control of RUSADA. In the sample of the athlete, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine, a modulator of cardiometabolism, were found. In particular, it is used to prevent angina pectoris in coronary heart disease.

At the same time, the samples of the athlete, which she took during the Olympics, did not show the presence of prohibited creatures. Valieva appealed the suspension, and on February 9, RUSADA lifted the measure, allowing the skater to continue competing in the Olympics.

On February 11, the International Olympic Committee filed an appeal against RUSADA's decision to lift Valieva's suspension. The International Skating Union will also challenge the decision of RUSADA. The case will be considered by the CAS visiting panel, which will make a decision before February 15, when the tournament in women's single skating starts.
